Final Week in Austria: The End of a Two Year Journey

In October, our school hosted the final week of our two-year Erasmus+ project ADAPT. For one week, students and teachers from Poland, Portugal and Estonia were our guests. The project focused on digital skills, mental health and the meaningful use of artificial intelligence (AI) in the classroom.

During the week, the students worked in international teams on a special task: they were asked to develop their own computer games based on chapters from the project book “11 Rules for Life.” For this, they used GitHub Copilot Pro and other AI tools to help them with programming. The teams planned their ideas, wrote code, tested their games and step by step improved graphics, texts and tasks. In this way, they not only learned new technical skills but also how important teamwork, communication and creativity are.

Alongside the computer work, there was a varied cultural and leisure programme. The groups visited the pumpkin seed oil producer Hamlitsch, where they saw how the famous Styrian pumpkin seed oil is made from pumpkin seeds and, of course, they were allowed to taste it. On a trip to Burg Deutschlandsberg, they took part in a guided tour and learned about the history and landscape of our region. Another highlight was the visit to Schloss Frauental, where the students took part in a mushroom cultivation workshop and then cooked together using the mushrooms. A joint excursion to Graz, including a city tour and some free time for shopping, rounded off the week.

The highlight of the mobility was the large final event at the Laßnitzhaus. There, the students presented their self-developed games on stage and spoke about their experiences with the project. In addition, the book “11 Rules for Life”, the project website, several AI videos and the project’s own song were presented. The audience, including many students, parents, teachers and guests, was clearly impressed by the professionalism and commitment of the young people.

The final week of ADAPT showed how well digital education, creative work with AI, mental well-being and European exchange can be combined. Many participants are taking home not only new skills but also valuable memories and friendships that will hopefully last for a long time.
