DAY 1: A Warm Welcome in Anadia

All travelers from Poland, Estonia, and Austria met in Anadia in the evening, marking the beginning of an exciting journey. Despite budget constraints requiring multiple stops and detours, everyone arrived safely. The Austrians began their trip early Sunday morning from Graz, connecting through Vienna and London to reach Porto. The Estonians faced a similar challenge, starting their journey on Saturday, spending a night in Tallinn, and making a stop in Finland before reaching Portugal. The Polish group also traveled on Saturday, with a layover in Milan.

Upon arrival in Anadia, students were warmly welcomed by their host families, and teachers were accommodated in a local hotel. The initial meeting was heartwarming, setting a positive tone for the days ahead. Exhausted but excited, everyone settled in for a good night's rest.

DAY 2: Building Bonds and Exploring AI

The second day kicked off with social games to help everyone get acquainted. Through activities like speed dating, students and teachers shared their interests and goals, building a sense of friendship. This was followed by a formal introduction to the board of directors, where each country presented gifts.

A guided tour of the school by local students gave everyone a better understanding of the environment. The day continued with an AI workshop led by Teacher David Satler, where students learned about tools like ChatGPT, Canva, and Gemini. They began working on e-books in diverse groups, integrating various nationalities.

Lunch featured traditional Portuguese cuisine, with dishes like Portuguese rice and fried cod. Afterward, students joined their hosts in regular classes and later engaged in cultural activities. Teachers, on the other hand, visited Aveiro and Costa Nova Beach, ending the day with a reflective dinner in Telheiro, Aveiro.

DAY 3: Deepening AI Skills and Planning Ahead

The third day focused on furthering AI knowledge. The morning session, again led by David Satler, involved continuing work on e-books and exploring tools like ClipDrop and Canva for creating the ADAPT superhero poster.

A project meeting followed, where plans for the next meeting in Poland were discussed, including budget considerations and activity planning. Lunch featured the traditional Portuguese Caldo, adding to the cultural immersion.

In the afternoon, students completed their e-books and worked on additional AI-related projects. The day concluded with cultural activities with host families for students and a traditional Portuguese dinner at Alberto’s house for teachers, where they shared feedback and discussed the workshop outcomes.

DAY 4: AI Music and Outdoor Adventures

Wednesday began with an engaging AI and music workshop led by teachers Marily, Rita, and Luciano, focusing on creating AI music using tools like Suno.ai. This hands-on session was a hit among students and teachers alike.

Sports activities followed, offering a fun break with opportunities to try the climbing wall. The group then departed for a scenic trip to Figueira da Foz, enjoying a picnic with homemade Portuguese food and breathtaking mountain views. The day ended with a cultural visit to Figueira da Foz and a relaxing time by the Atlantic Ocean before heading back to Anadia.

DAY 5: Reflecting on Experiences and Cultural Exploration

Thursday's planned healthy eating workshop was replaced with a feedback session due to the speaker's illness. This session proved invaluable as students reflected on their experiences, discussing how the activities influenced their understanding of AI and intercultural dynamics. Many shared heartfelt stories of cultural exchange, often moving participants to tears.

Afterward, a walk to the center of Anadia with Portuguese students acting as tour guides provided more cultural insights. Students spent the rest of the afternoon with their hosts, while teachers visited Coimbra, exploring its historic university and botanical gardens. The day concluded with a farewell dinner in Gavião, where the success of the program was celebrated, and future plans were discussed.

DAY 6: Departure and Looking Forward

Friday marked the departure of all participants. The journey home mirrored the complexity of their arrival, with multiple stops and layovers, but everyone eventually reached their destinations safely. Filled with new memories, knowledge, and friendships, participants left with a positive impression and a strong sense of anticipation for the next meeting in Poland in October 2024.

With this terrific experience behind us, we look forward with great optimism to our next gathering, confident in the continued success of our shared efforts.
